The Challenge
As the largest civilian Sailing School Vessel (SSV) in the nation, the Oliver Hazard Perry, RI is the first ocean-going full-rigged ship to be built in over 100 years. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education foundation, their mission is to provide empowering education-at-sea programs that promote personal and professional growth. OHPRI wanted to better educate and inspire the public to learn more about the ship, its functions, and its history.
The Approach
To extend the program’s reach, SSV Oliver Hazard Perry needed to increase overall community engagement beyond its twenty-eight trainees. A comprehensive training manual was developed, helping the public to better understand and engage with the vessel’s extensive operations.
The Value
The training manual allowed SSV Oliver Hazard Perry to take the first step toward reinvigorating the education-at-sea community while continuing to advance Rhode Island’s maritime heritage.
